THE AIR WAS COLD AND THICK when they stepped outside of the castle. Dew hung on the tips of the blades of grass, brushing against her shoes as they walked across the grounds. Some shouts were audible from in front of and behind them; all excitement for the sport that the whole school loved so dearly. â€Å"It couldn’t have been that bad,† Louise dismissed as Winnie finished detailing exactly how aggravating her detention had been. The girl had explained that she did, in fact, know Sirius and he was fine once you got to know him. Winnie had been skeptical and had shrugged it off when Louise tried to tell her this. â€Å"You only say that because detention sounds like plenty of fun to you,† she scoffed, rolling her eyes with a slight grin. â€Å"Make†¦show more content†¦Ã¢â‚¬Å"She likes to watch Quidditch a bit too much.† Winnie slapped her friend’s arm, gluing her eyes to the field. James Potter, the boy whom she had met in the library that Lily despised, was standing at the front of the pack. This lead Winnie to assume that he was that year’s team captain. â€Å"Looks like James doesnt have much to work with this year,† Sirius sighed as he took a look at the turnout. Winnie didnt find the group particularly bad, but she could argue that Slytherin or Hufflepuff’s chances were looking better than previous years. Ravenclaw looked just about the same, with many of the members returning to the team. â€Å"Maybe more people will turn up. Either way, they dont look that bad,† the boy next to her commented. â€Å"Remus is right. I mean, James could easily beat that lot into shape if he tried,† Louise added on as they all observed James now putting each position through more basic drills. A boy fell from his broom while he was throwing the Quaffle to another girl trying out to be a Chaser. James grabbed his own broom and did elaborate tricks all the way up to the boy’s previous spot in the air. Winnie rolled her eyes at his obvious showing off. â€Å"Bit of a showboat, isnt he?† Winnie observed, the smaller boy, Peter, giggling nervously. 1. Executive summary The purpose of this research report is to find out whether customers are interested in an online hypermarket. To analyze this, the research is divided in three topics. The first one discusses the interest from customers to buy online. The second looks at drivers and barriers for people to buy online. Finally, the third topic investigates the different product categories that Caddyhome should include in their assortment. To analyze these topics, a market research was conducted through a face to face questionnaire and the results analyzed through a statistical program called SPSS. These results can be found in Appendix A. Our mean for grocery products will lay somewhere between zero (never bought a grocery product online last month) and 1 (bought at least one product last month). We find a mean of 0,0962 for grocery products which is very close to zero. From this, we can conclude that people, on average, don’t use the internet to buy grocery products online. Furthermore, by looking at the frequencies, we see that our respondents answered that they never bought grocery products online 42 times more often than we expected. We can also see that the residual for the option that they did buy grocery products online is minus 42. We can conclude that the majority of the respondents don’t buy grocery products online. For non grocery products, we find a p value of 0.327 which indicates that the observed frequencies are equal to the expected frequencies. Looking at the mean of 0.5481, we can conclude that 55 per cent of the respondents at least once bought a non grocery product online. Also, looking at the residuals, we see that only 5 more people than we expected, answered that they bought non grocery products online. These numbers tell us that half of the respondents used internet to buy at least one non-grocery product online last month. Business Behavior: Beyond the Letter of Law Toward a Spirit of Trust While accepting the legitimacy of trade secrets, businesses should recognize that sincerity, candor, truthfulness, the keeping of promises, and transparency contribute not only to their own credibility and stability but also to the smoothness and efficiency of business transactions, particularly on the international level. Principle 4. Respect for Rules To avoid trade frictions and to promote freer trade, equal conditions for competition, and fair and equitable treatment for all participants, businesses should respect international and domestic rules. Why did a stalemate develop on the Western Front? Stalemate during war is when no action can be taken or progress made. The Stalemate on the Western front, a line of trenches stretching from the Swiss Alps all the way across France to Nieuwpoort in Belgium, was a dilemma that was not foreseen by either the allies or Germany. Originally it had been predicted that the war would be over after a quick and decisive battle, this perception was quickly diminished once the war had begun. No one reason explains why the situation on the western front developed into a stalemate but many factors can be considered. The developments in weaponry have been said to have contributed to the Stalemate. In the early twentieth century many new and effective weapons were being developed. Long range heavy artillery had been proved much more effective than the mounted rifle wielding soldiers of previous centuries. The allies and Germany were both caught up in this weaponry boom. This â€Å"race† for new technology led to the two sides being approximately evenly matched, because of this neither side could make much head way. Also, the Generals in charge of the troops were mostly aged officers whose knowledge of modern weapons was limited. The fast moving nature of modern warfare had taken them by and led to rather outdated methods being used. So even though new weapons were evadible if they were not used effectively they were useless. The problem with advanced warfare and having similar types of weapons was that it was really machine against machine thus getting an upper hand was virtually impossible. Problems in communications also contributed towards the stalemate because the connections between the front line, the artillery and the Commanders were very poor. Most of the Generals were stationed several miles away from the front line, due to this they could not get a clear idea of what was going on amongst the troops. This delay and confusion on the battlefield made it hard to get an objective perspective on the battle. Sometimes the different nationalities such as the French and British found it hard communicating with one another this made it difficult to co-ordinate and pass on orders. As a result of all this the messages taken from the commanders to the front line were often out of date by the time they reached the trenches. The failure of the Schlieffen plan played one of the most important roles in bringing about the stalemate on the western front. Firstly, Russian forces had mobilised much faster than previously supposed they would, this miscalculation meant that Germany had to redeploy troops to the eastern front when they still needed the force to defeat France. Due to this Germanys forces were stretched and did not have the man power to break the French lines, all they could do to stop themselves from being pushed back through the Franco-German border was entrench. This resulted in the two forces entering a state of static warfare, fighting in this way makes it virtually impossible to gain any land. Secondly, the Germany army was slowed down by Belgium. The Germans had assumed that the Belgians would not put up a fight because their country was neutral. This was not the case as Belgium decided to fight, poorly equipped as they were. This did not stop the Germans but it did give the French troops time to prepare, thus losing the German troops the element of surprise. Lastly, because the German troops had advanced so fast through Belgium their supply trains had found it hard to keep up with the troops this resulted in them being under equipped and poorly prepared. The outcome of the battle of the Marne was one of the most important causes of the stalemate. As the French effort to attack across the border failed they resorted to a retreat to defend Paris. As a result of this the German forces were obliged to quit their arcing motion to meet the French at the river Marne. The relatively well equipped French were fighting on their own land and the Germans, as explained above were poorly prepared and had a severe shortage of men. When a gap was spotted between the German Second and First Armies by reconnaissance planes the French and British forces took advantage of the situation by launching a night time attack which served to separate the two armies even further. When it looked like the Germany would be almost entirely encircled and destroyed, they retreated, pursued by the French and British, to just north of the river Aisne where they built trenches that were to last for several years. This act effectively destroyed the Schlieffen plan and ended the so called war of movement. After the First Battle of the Marne, both Allied and German forces began a series of outflanking manoeuvres to try to get behind the enemy. As each manoeuvre was blocked they moved further through France and eventually reached the coast. This later became known as the â€Å"Race to the sea†. As neither force could break the others lines the offensive came to a relative standstill. This would remain so for approximately the next four years. This lack of progress obviously played a major part in the route to the development of a stalemate on the western front. I have come to realise that there is no single cause behind the Stalemate that began in 1914 on the Western Front but many which all contributed to the eventual outcome. The long term effects of the failure of the Schlieffen plan however lead me to believe that this is the most important reason the stalemate developed as it did.
